SHOICHIRO SUMI, MD, Ph.D, CLINIC DIRECTOR
My name is Shoichiro SUMI, Director of AL CLINIC. I am from the Institute for Viral Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Kyoto University. My specialty is regenerative medicine, and I have been working on bio-artificial pancreatic islets, which are organs for islet transplantation that do not require immunosuppression, at the Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences. I have been a regular member of the Pancreas and Islet Transplant Study Group (now the Pancreas and Islet Transplant Society of Japan) since its inception. My mentor, who organized the first Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine. So I was given the opportunity to serve as the secretary-general of the first Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine. Because of this, regenerative medicine has become my specialty. I am a surgeon by training, but I believe that this is the perfect discipline to take on the completely new field of anti-aging. Patients may come to me in a variety of situations, and I hope that I can provide the best medical care in each of these situations.
